AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1997

At Adelaide, December 17. Australia won by 121 runs. Toss: West Indies. International debut: S. Lee.

Australia's comprehensive victory was also the heaviest defeat ever suffered by West Indies in their 305 one-day internationals to date. Debutant Shane Lee crashed 39 off 27 balls to turn a sound Australian start, built around a brisk fifty from Waugh, into a stunning finish, on 242 for six after three of their 50 overs were lost to rain. Lee also dismissed Adams, but it was McDermott who was mainly responsible for West Indies' demise, reducing them to 17 for four, effecting a run-out to go with his single spell of 7–2–8–2.

Man of the Match: M. E. Waugh. Attendance: 22,189.
