PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1997
At Sharjah, October 15. West Indies won by four wickets. Toss: West Indies. Two days later, West Indies turned the tables on Pakistan, producing their first victory since the Birmingham Test in July. Pakistan were weakened by injuries but Salim Elahi steered them to 148 for two in 37 overs before becoming the first of three run-outs in 16 balls; the last seven wickets added just 46. To maintain their interest in the tournament, West Indies wanted to reach their target of 195 as quickly as possible. They did it in style, led by Williams, in his first match at Sharjah. He scored 57 in 63 balls, while Lara contributed 52 in 58; West Indies were home with nearly 11 overs to spare. Man of the Match: S. C. Williams. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
