NEW ZEALAND v PAKISTAN Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1997
At Dunedin, December 15. Pakistan won by 20 runs. Toss: Pakistan. Pakistan kicked off the one-day series with a comfortable win, despite a disappointing total of 189. None of their batsmen reached 40 and wickets fell at regular intervals. But New Zealand lost both openers cheaply and then Waqar Younis joined the demolition act by removing Young, Fleming and Parore in nine balls. There was little chance of a home recovery from 50 for five. Although Twose continued his Test form with a fine 59 and Larsen hit out towards the end, Wasim Akram finished them off in the 48th over. Man of the Match: Waqar Younis. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
