PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1997

At Rawalpindi, October 3. Sri Lanka won by four wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debuts: Saeed Azad; E. A. Upashantha.

The limited-overs series mirrored the Tests perfectly as Sri Lanka came from behind to win 2-1. They overhauled Pakistan's total of 183 with two balls to spare. Rain leaked through the covers and delayed play for three hours, reducing the game to 38 overs a side. Pakistan began well enough, but again the loss of Salim Elahi signalled disaster: off-spinners Dharmasena and De Silva grabbed three wickets each in a collapse from 55 without loss to 134 for six. Sri Lanka, in contrast, were a shaky 63 for three after 15 overs. Then De Silva and Ranatunga united to put on 75, and their colleagues managed the final requirement of 32 from five overs without much fuss.

Man of the Match: A. Ranatunga.
