PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1997
At Faisalabad, October 1. Sri Lanka won by 49 runs. Toss: Pakistan. Sri Lanka turned the tables on their hosts, pulling level on the back of a highly respectable total of 257. But Pakistan's run-chase was well on its way while Ramiz Raja and Salim Elahi were adding 79 for the second wicket. The loss of both, within three runs, put the brakes on: wickets then tumbled and the target slipped out of reach. Needing 97 from the final ten overs, Pakistan managed less than half that. The tourists' top four had given them a sound start. Opener Jayasuriya scored a brisk fifty and Gurusinha, sharing a 109-run stand with De Silva, made 66 from 73 balls, which took him past 3,000 runs in one-day internationals. Man of the Match: S. T. Jayasuriya. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
