KENYA v ZIMBABWE Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1997
At Patna, February 26. No result. Toss: Zimbabwe. International debut: Tariq Iqbal. Before rain washed out play on the day scheduled for the match, this seemed to be Kenya's best chance of an unexpected triumph. Andy Flower chose to bat in cloudy conditions but Zimbabwe had lost three wickets, with Edward Odumbe having a hand in all of them, when the weather intervened. All chance of resumption that day was lost when a helicopter, supposed to be helping to dry the ground, instead blew off the covers so that water spilled over the pitch. The same cast – and the crowd of 30,000 – returned the following day for a completely new game. Under a 1996 ICC ruling, matches which are abandoned and then replayed still count as full one-day internationals. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
