NEW ZEALAND v WEST INDIES 1994-95 Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996
At Auckland, January 22. West Indies won on scoring-rate. Toss: New Zealand. International debut: N. J. Astle. Lara and Williams added 88 from 59 deliveries to make sure that West Indies were well ahead of an asking-rate of four and a half an over when a third burst of rain terminated their innings. They were some way behind, with 61 from 18 overs, when Lara arrived, but he scored 55 from only 32 balls. After a sedate start, Williams finished with 73 from 80. Rutherford had chosen to bat on a showery day, which damaged New Zealand's prospects; they were interrupted at 65 for two off 21 overs and their innings reduced first to 43 overs, then to 37. Astle – making his debut after four players were suspended – Thomson and Vaughan added 98 in their last 15 overs. Man of the Match: B. C. Lara. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
