SRI LANKA v PAKISTAN 1994-95
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1996

At R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, August 24. Pakistan won by 27 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka.

Wasim Akram, who equalled Kapil Dev's record of 251 wickets in limited-overs internationals in the previous game, passed it when he trapped Jayasuriya leg-before in his first over. He needed only 174 matches to Kapil's 220. Meanwhile, Waqar Younis returned to his best form since an operation for appendicitis. Together they halted a brave victory charge by Sri Lanka, who required 66 from the last ten overs with six wickets in hand. In two overs, Waqar bowled Tillekeratne and Arjuna Ranatunga with swinging yorkers and dismissed Mahanama, who had resumed with a runner after suffering cramps, despite a protest from Salim Malik that he should have been consulted. Pakistan's own innings never gained momentum; most of the top-order batsmen got settled but threw away their wickets.

Man of the Match: Waqar Younis.
