NEW ZEALAND v SRI LANKA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1995
At Sharjah, April 18. New Zealand won by two runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debuts: H. T. Davis; A. P. Weerakkody. New Zealand scraped through in the contest to meet Pakistan in the semi-finals. Sri Lanka needed ten from Nash's last two deliveries. Gurusinha, who had made a heroic century, hit the first for six but then could make only a single instead of the four he wanted. He had revived the innings from a seemingly hopeless 41 for four, with Chandana his principal support in a stand of 88. New Zealand started rather slowly, until Thomson arrived and reached his fifty in 41 balls. Sri Lanka deserved credit for completing their 50 overs on time despite a ten-minute interruption for rain. Man of the Match: A. P. Gurusinha. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
