NEW ZEALAND v SOUTH AFRICA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1995
At Perth, January 14 (day/night). South Africa won by five wickets. Toss: New Zealand. After three defeats and a wash-out, South Africa recorded their first win in limited-overs internationals against New Zealand, put their recent poor one-day form behind them and significantly reduced the gap in net run-rate between the teams. Donald, back to his best after being rested in some of the earlier matches, and McMillan both took three wickets, as New Zealand were bowled out for 150, a total which South Africa surpassed with almost 20 overs to spare. The Kirstens launched their reply with a stand of 80 in 19 overs, then Cronje added 40 off 35 balls. Both sides suffered injuries: Gary Kirsten needed stitches in his mouth, after a delivery from Pringle hit his visor, while New Zealand lost Greatbatch, who twisted knee ligaments in the field. Man of the Match: A. A. Donald. Attendance: 14,778. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
