AUSTRALIA v SOUTH AFRICA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1995

At Brisbane, January 9. Australia won by 48 runs. Toss: South Africa. International debut: D. B. Rundle.

South Africa completed a miserable weekend in Brisbane with another defeat. Despite four wickets (including three in five balls) from off-spinner Dave Rundle, Australia made 230, with Jones, accorded a hero's welcome on his return to the side, scoring 98 in typically forthright style.

South Africa passed 100 for the loss of only two wickets, but an over-cautious approach left the later batsmen too much to do, and the last eight went down for 64 in 15 overs, with McGrath taking four and Border – who ran out Callaghan – two. Border had words with Rhodes when he refused to walk after seemingly being caught and bowled. Earlier, the first of Healy's three catches took him past Rod Marsh's Australian record of 124 dismissals in one-day internationals.

Man of the Match: D. M. Jones. Attendance: 17,223.
