AUSTRALIA v SOUTH AFRICA
Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1995

At Sydney, December 14 (day/night). Australia won by 103 runs. Toss: South Africa. International debut: G. Kirsten.

Australia's first limited-overs victory over South Africa was clouded by misgivings about the pitch – described by Border as very ordinary – which allowed generous bounce and movement to the seamers.

Replying to Australia's 172 for nine, in which Healy's 38 was the highest score, South Africa were shot out for 69 – less than half their previous lowest one -day total, 152 against West Indies in 1991–92– in just 28 overs. Only Wessels and Cronje (who looked unlucky to be given out caught behind) reached double figures, while Rhodes, who had broken his left hand in the field, came at No. 9. The match award went to Reiffel, who scored 29 not out, took four wickets for 13, made two catches and ran out De Villiers with a direct hit.

Man of the Match: P. R. Reiffel. Attendance: 39,634.
