Though Tillekeratne scored 104, which was to be the only century of the tournament, no one could help him chase a target of 269. After a sound start from Lara, followed by a run-a-ball 55 from Adams, West Indies had plundered 50 runs from their last five overs, 41 of them through Cummins, who faced only 19 balls.
