SOUTH AFRICA v WEST INDIES Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1994
At Port Elizabeth, February 11. South Africa won by six wickets. Toss: South Africa. On a pitch of benign appearance but uneven bounce the West Indians suffered some early blows from Pringle and could not lift their scoring tempo much above three runs an over. Haynes took 104 balls over 43 runs, with a single boundary, one of only seven scored by his team. Patterson, the first change bowler, dismissed both South African openers in his first over, the 13th of the innings, and the host country laboured to 65 for four from 24 overs. However, an enterprising unbroken partnership of 85 between the 37-year-old Kirsten and Rhodes, 14 years his junior, saw South Africa home with more than three overs to spare. Man of the Match: J. N. Rhodes. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
