AUSTRALIA v PAKISTAN Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1994
At Melbourne, January 12 (day/night). Australia won by 32 runs. Toss: Australia. Victory booked Australia's place in the finals and ended the last hopes of Pakistan, who again played without strategy or spirit. Jones survived a close lbw decision off Wasim Akram before he had scored and later sustained a hairline fracture of the right thumb when struck by a ball from the same bowler, but he provided the backbone of the total with a partnership of 124 with Boon. Then Border passed 6,000 runs in one-day internationals, the fourth player to do so, after D. L. Haynes, I. V. A. Richards and Javed Miandad. Pakistan never looked like coming to terms with their target; Inzamam-ul-Haq's robust, unbeaten 39 came too late to matter.
Man of the Match: D. M. Jones. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
