Javed Miandad gathered his runs with characteristic innovation and scored 45 singles off his 82 balls. Then Inzamam-ul-Haq and Wasim Akram provided the necessary impetus to keep Pakistan on course towards the end, Wasim completing the victory with a square-leg boundary off Ambrose. West Indies started shakily when Haynes received a dubious decision in the second over. Even Lara, who scored 59, could never raise the rate above four an over.
