SOUTH AFRICA v INDIA 1992-93 Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1994
At Johannesburg, December 13 (day/night). South Africa won by six wickets. Toss: South Africa. Tight bowling and fielding restricted India to 161, a total they could never defend, in the first day/night match staged in South Africa on a Sunday. It was hastily rescheduled when rain prevented play the previous day. There was no provision for this in the tour playing conditions, but the 32,000 tickets had long been sold and television coverage arranged. India's progress was always too slow on a soaked field and only Azharuddin made a sizeable contribution. South Africa also took their time before Rhodes applied a spur and he finished the match with a six over long-off. Television's omnipotence was further demonstrated when the Indian fielders successfully appealed for Callaghan's run-out after watching the replay on the giant screen. Man of the Match: J. N. Rhodes. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
