AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1993
At Sydney, December 18 (day/night). Australia won by 51 runs. Toss: Australia. A formidable 32-over stand between Marsh and Boon, their eighth of three figures in one-day internationals, was the cornerstone of Australia's victory. It was built in the face of splendid opening spells by Ambrose and Cummins and a testing first stint from Marshall; Cummins's figures suffered from umpire King's harsh judgment of width outside off stump. Boon dominated until, in the 24th over, Marsh hoisted two huge sixes to mid-wicket. He batted on for another 22 overs and faced 146 balls for his 82. West Indies' reply was crippled when Haynes was caught behind off an unplayable ball from McDermott. Richardson made little headway in 30 balls, and only Hooper's sparkling 77 (87 balls) prevented an embarrassing rout. Man of the Match: G. R. Marsh. Attendance: 37,770. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
