AUSTRALIA v INDIA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1993
At Hobart, December 10. Australia won by eight wickets. Toss: India. McDermott's opening spell of seven overs, which removed both Indian openers, gave Australia a grip which never loosened. The innings was stabilised by Manjrekar and Tendulkar, who shared 102 runs for the third wicket. Each scored 57 but they could not raise the momentum to build a defensible total. On a slow pitch, not the truest in bounce, the Australians treated India's bowling with respect. They were not stretched, however, and Boon and Jones took them within two runs of their objective. As the target approached, Jones denied himself runs and the strike to allow his colleague to reach a century on his home ground. Boon's unbeaten 102 came from 163 balls, with eight fours. Man of the Match: D. C. Boon. Attendance: 9,218. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
