AUSTRALIA v SRI LANKA Wisden CricInfo staff - January 1, 1993
At Adelaide, March 7. Australia won by seven wickets. Toss: Australia. Australia were much relieved to record a second win. Their run chase was given a solid foundation by Marsh, recalled to open in place of Mark Taylor, and Moody, who survived an lbw appeal to share 120 for the first wicket. Mark Waugh, with two sixes, and Boon continued their good work. The Sri Lankan batsmen had contributed to their own downfall with four run-outs. The first, and most serious, was that of their leading scorer Mahanama, who responded too late to a call from Samarasekera. The burden of the innings then fell on De Silva, who eventually lost his wicket trying to force the pace as he ran out of partners. Sri Lanka were also restricted by tight bowling from McDermott and Whitney, on a pitch offering enough turn for Border to bowl ten overs of slow left-arm himself, supplementing Peter Taylor's off-breaks. Man of the Match: T. M. Moody. Attendance: 11,663. © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
