Gayle's was a restrained hand. He was willing to bide his time and
glean his runs. But when the bowlers erred, he was quick to pounce on
their mistakes, stroking as many as 14 boundaries and a six while
making 80 off 202 balls. He and Hinds, by putting on 172 runs, also
had the rare satisfaction of besting one of the many records that
their illustrious predecessors Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes had
set - that of the highest partnership for the opening wicket at Eden
Gardens.
