The West Indies, who began the fourth morning on 446-5, lost
Shivnarine Chanderpaul early. The left-hander made 140 before falling
to Virender Sehwag. India's regular spinners Harbhajan Singh and Anil
Kumble, then, took over, claiming two wickets each as the hosts
managed to restrict the tourists to 497. Carl Hooper's men had,
though, gained a vital 139-run lead by then and would have begun to
harbour visions of a consolation win.
