The South African reply did not get off to the best of starts;
opener Graeme Smith falling to a stupendous catch by a diving
Yuvraj Singh at point in just the third over. Herschelle Gibbs
and Jacques Kallis were, though, in fine form. Gibbs after a
cautious start took on the role of the senior partner. By the
time, the aggressive South African opener had brought up his
second consecutive hundred, the Proteas seemed well on their way
to victory. But, then, came a vital moment of the match; Gibbs
after having made 116 off 119 balls was forced to retire hurt
with cramps in both his hands.
