(Colombo 9th ODI - 02 Aug 2001)
The square drive was a particular favourite of Nathan Astle who went on to
make the 11th century of his limited overs career. Astle's dominance of the
bowling put the Indians on the back foot. While they continued to peg away
at the other end, Astle remained firm to the very end. Making 108 (198
mins, 143 balls, nine fours) Astle took the New Zealand total to 247 in the
48th over. Some good strokeplay from Lou Vincent (45) ensured that New
Zealand reached an imposing score of 264 in 50 overs.
