(Colombo 2nd ODI - 20 Jul 2001)
Amongst the ruins stood the baby-faced Nathan John Astle. He had a slice of
good fortune when he dragged a ball from Nehra, even before getting off the
mark; the ball hit the stumps and ricocheted away, without disturbing the
bails! Astle went on to punish Nehra for four boundaries in his innings to
remain unbeaten on 117 scored off 150 balls. Astle carried his bat through
the innings, cracking nine boundaries and a huge six. It was a phenomenal
performance by the Kiwi opener and set up a total that didn't look too
daunting for the fancied Indians.
