(Colombo 1st ODI - 18 Jul 2001)
The New Zealand innings was thrown into the deep by some disciplined fast
bowling, Fernando with his pace troubling the batsmen at will. In the first
seven balls, they had lost both their openers, Astle (2) and Sinclair (1).
Stephen Fleming (21) and McMillan (20) fell to the pace of Fernando. Lou
Vincent (25) and Chris Harris (48) tried their best to make a match out of
it. Adam Parore stood strong and made an unbeaten 51, the top score in the
Kiwi innings. New Zealand was never in the chase after being reduced to
100/5 in the 23rd over.
