(1st Test: Galle - 14-18 Aug 2001)
It is an open secret that Ganguly has trouble against genuine
quick bowlers and that there has been no signs of his wretched
form coming to an end. Ganguly was caught behind off the
bowling of Fernando after having made 15 runs off 60 balls.
Fernando struck like a tornado and wrecked the Indian innings
with a spell of fierce pace. Dighe (9) didn't have a clue
about how to duck underneath a bouncer, leaving his bat up
like a periscope to be kissed by the ball on its way to the
keeper. Javagal Srinath (0) was hit on the left hand by
another thunderbolt from Fernando and had to retire-hurt.
Harbhajan Singh (4) was left defenseless as Fernando ripped
his castle apart. Venkatesh Prasad (0) was cleaned up by
Muralitharan leaving Zaheer Khan (0) not out. India were
bowled out for 187 in 95.3 overs.
