(1st Test: India v England at Mohali, 3-7 Dec 2001)
The highlight of the Indian batting was Deep Dasgupta's maiden Test hundred (100). Along with Rahul Dravid (86), Dasgupta added 136 runs for the third wicket. Dasgupta hit 15 boundaries in his 254-ball innings, while Dravid struck ten boundaries in his 206--ball knock. The scoring rate suffered drastically as Dravid struggled to get going in the early part of his innings. Richard Dawson, the debutant off-spinner, bowled a tight line and length to make things a bit more difficult. India were though helped by some shoddy fielding by the tourists. Andrew Flintoff was easily the best of the English attack, bowling with a lot of pace and generating good bounce.
