Stanley Cricket Club The first written record of a match played by the Stanley Cricket team appears in the 17th April 1877 edition of Grocott's Penny Mail. Since the Second World War the club has flourished as it carried out its two main objectives, namely to provide good cricket for schools and to give Grahamstown cricketers an opportunity of matching their skills against teams from Port Elizabeth. As the prestige club of the district it has had to limit its playing membership to thirty.
