The Free Foresters

In 1856 the Pilgrims of Dee, a side run by the Armitstead family, were invited to bring an XI to inaugurate Bedford's new cricket ground in the grounds of the rectory. It was on this occasion that the title the Free Foresters was invented, because all his eleven were from the precincts of the Forest of Arden in Warwickshire, or Needwood in Staffordshire. Our motto, "United though untied" was an epigram borrowed from a book. Our last major dinner celebrated our 125th Anniversary, so now we are looking forward to 2006.
