The Butterflies
The Butterflies Cricket Club was founded in 1862. There were 17 original members elected in 1863 and the first match played by the club was against Forest School at Walthamstow on 26 June 1863. In 1864 membership was extended to five other schools, Charterhouse, Eton, Harrow, Westminster and Winchester and this has remained the situation ever since. The origin of the club's name (the colours are magenta, black and mauve) is not recorded. About 30 matches are played each year against schools, clubs and wandering teams.
