3rd One-Day Match: Ireland v Australia 'A'
By Gerry Byrne
27 August 1998
Australia A won the third of the One Day Matches against Ireland yesterday
at Waringstown by the convincing margin of 8 wickets. Ireland again won
the Toss and elected to bat. However a devastating opening spell by Bichel
reduced them to 15 for 4, with Steve Waugh being dismissed first ball. From
that point there was no real way back, although a fine 57 from skipper
Angus Dunlop, supported by Paul Mooney and Jonathan Bushe, who added 32 for
the eighth wicket, eventually enabled them to reach 138. Best of the
Australian Bowlers was Miller who took 4 for 28 and Bichel who finished
with 3 for 32.
Australia A made short work of this, reaching their victory target in 30.3
Overs, with Hussey leading the way with 78*, which included 9 4's and 2
6's. The best of the Irish bowler was off spinner McCallan who took 2 for
33 in his 10 Overs.
The series continues today at Downpatrick with the last match on Saturday
at Beechgrove in Derry.
