Asif Iqbal, the event manager of the Wills International Cricket Tournament (ICC knock-out World Cup) to be held in Dhaka in October, arrived in the capital on a two-day visit yesterday to inspect the host's preparation for the mega event.

The assignment of the former Pakistan captain here is to examine the practice facilities that are being provided by Dhaka in different city venues for the nine Test-playing nations.

The bespectacled star of yesteryear had a very busy schedule yesterday as he reconnoitered as many as five practice venues the BUET ground, Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium, Sultana Kamal Women's Sports Complex ground, Kalabagan Club and BKSP ground in Savar immediately after his arrival in the morning. Asif expressed his satisfaction with the existing facilities in three venues - BUET ground, Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium and Sultana Kamal Women's Sports Complex.

After visiting those grounds, Asif called on the State Minister for Youth and Sports Obaidul Quader at his National Sports Council office in the afternoon and discussed on further improvement of those grounds to be used by the players of the participating countries during the ten-day tournament.

Syed Ashraful Haque, the general secretary of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), was also present during the meeting. The state minister assured Asif of all cooperation to make the tournament a success, ensuring proper practice facilities and security measures for the guests. They also discussed on the security aspects, media service and lighting facilities at the Dhaka Stadium.

Before returning to Lahore this afternoon, Asif is likely to inspect few more prospective practice venues around the city.

Asif is expected to stay in Dhaka for two months in a row before the start of the tournament in a bid to take care of all the co-ordination works.
