Ananda registered a convincing 70-run win over their traditional Nalanda to retain the Dr. N.M. Perera Trophy in their annual limited over cricket counter played at Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

Electing to take first lease of a perfect batting strip, Ananda made a commanding 274 all out in 49.5 overs. Their run feast was led by opener Lahiru Chaturanga who made an explosive 76 off 79 balls including 12 fours. Chaturanga was well supported by Sameera Panapitiya (56 runs off 43 balls with two fours) in giving Ananda a healthy total. Thilina Kandambi and M. Pushpakumara too made useful contributions.

Dilhan Jayasundara was the most impressive of the Nalanda bowlers with figures of 4 for 58.

In reply, Nalanda were bowled out for 204 in 44.2 overs with Danushka Fernando making a top score of 49.
