Opener Bryan Young hit a splendid 108 as the touring New Zealand cricket team warmed up for the forthcoming Independence trophy tournament with a convincing 80-run victory over the Sri Lanka Board President's XI in a limited over cricket encounter played at the De Zoysa Stadium, Moratuwa yesterday.

Young held the New Zealand batting together with a determined performance before retiring with the total at 231. He hoisted one six and struck seven boundaries and was involved in a third-wicket stand of 93 runs with Mathew Horne.

The New Zealand middle order also clicked well with Chris Harris and Adam Parore making good contributions. The former in fact hoisted two sixes and struck four boundaries during his short stay at the crease.

The Board President's XI were always behind the required run rate despite a sparkling half century by Sajith Fernando.

The opener hammered 75 in almost even time with the help of two sixes and nine boundaries.
