SUNLG: Sunday League Review, 22 May 1994

Sunday League Matches : 22 May 94 : Review

WARWICKSHIRE v SOMERSET: Taunton

Dermot Reeve made a motorway dash from the rained off England
game to inspire Warwickshire to a second Sunday League win of the
season. Reeve's quick 25 enabled Warwicks to overhaul Somerset's
105-7 with five wickets and four balls to spare. Somerset's in-
nings never gained much momentum and although Mark Lathwell hit a
fine 31 and Tim Munton 28, Reeve's men kept them in check.

SURREY v NORTHANTS: Fosters Oval

Martin Bicknell's Sunday best bowling performance of five for 12
was wasted as rain thwarted Surrey's bid to keep a 100% Sunday
record. After Bicknell had whipped out the first five Northamp-
tonshire batsmen it looked odds on victory number three in the 40
over competition. But two prolonged heavy showers left too much
work to be done by the Foster's Oval groundstaff.

KENT v LANCASHIRE: Canterbury

Sunday bests by Lancashire's John Crawley (91) and Peter Martin
(3-15) were the inspiration behind Lancashire's eight wicket vic-
tory. Martin dismissed Kent's main hopes in Trevor Ward and Carl
Hooper with the space of eight balls. England captain Mike
Atherton's 80 minute dash from Lord's went unrewarded as he was
out for only two before Crawley and Graham Lloyd (55no) won it.

HANTS v MIDDLESEX: Southampton

Hampshire openers Paul Terry and Tony Middleton shared an un-
beaten stand of 159 to crush Middlesex by 10 wickets. Terry hit
91 while Middleton managed an unbeaten 57 as Hants cantered home
with three overs to spare after Middlesex had made a meal of
their innings. Scoring only 26 in 20 overs at one point
Middlesex looked awash until John Carr and Keith Brown pushed
them along to a tidy 158-5.

Other Matches Abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled.
