AXA Equity & Law League - Matches on Sunday Sep 12th 1993 MIDDLESEX v LANCASHIRE: Lord's Rain caused the Sunday League match between Middlesex and Lan- cashire to be abandoned after 20 overs at Lord's. But that was still enough time for home opener Mike Roseberry to rush to his second AXA Equity & Law half century of the season as Middlesex reached 75 4. Roseberry hit a run a ball 50 with two sixes and three fours in an hour but was dismissed off Peter Martin for 51 in what proved the game's last over. GLOUCS v NOTTS: Bristol Gloucestershire's Sunday League clash with Nottinghamshire lasted just 11.5 overs before being washed out. Simon Hinks was caught in the slips off the first ball from Chris Lewis but Matt Win- dows hit a powerful 24 with a six and 4 fours before the weather won. Windows a Durham University student drove and pulled boun- daries off Gregory Mike and Lewis before finishing with a six over extra cover off Andy Pick. DERBYSHIRE v NORTHANTS: Derby Derbyshire's opening batsman Peter Bowler set a new Sunday League record for the county before rain washed out the match against Northamptonshire. Bowler passed Kim Barnett's record of 700 runs in a season during his innings of 40 which took his aggregate to 722. But his top score of 79 in Derbyshire's 214 8 became academic when heavy rain prevented Allan Lamb's Northants side coming back out to reply. WARWICKS v SOMERSET: Edgbaston Somerset were condemned to bottom place in the Sunday League for the first time following a wash out against Warwicks. With fewer wins than nearest rivals Nottinghamshire they are certain of the wooden spoon even if they win their last game against Durham next weekend. Another defeat seemed to be looming before the rain halted their stuttering progress to 133 6 in 40 overs against tight Warwickshire bowling. YORKSHIRE v SUSSEX: Scarborough West Indian Richie Richardson marked his return to Sunday cricket to inspire Yorkshire' 21 run win over Sussex. Richardson re- turned from injury to hit 89 from 116 balls including two sixes and four fours to steer Yorkshire to 255 7 in 50 overs. Ex White Rose star Billy Athey hit 51 in 97 balls to spearhead Sussex's reply but Peter Hartley hit back with a career best 5 36 as Sussex slid to 234. |
