AXA Equity & Law Sunday League : September 5th 1993 SOMERSET v GLOUCS: Taunton Umpire Ray Julian described the Taunton pitch as very poor for Sunday cricket after Gloucestershire beat Somerset by three wick- ets in a low scoring match. Somerset never came to terms with the uneven bounce and were all out for 111 in 41.5 overs. Andy Caddick removed Gloucs' openers and spinner Mushtaq Ahmed kept up the pressure with 3 17 in 10 overs but the visitors got home by three wickets. DURHAM v NOTTS: Chester le Str Wayne Larkins hit his third one day century in eight days to car- ry Durham to a three wicket win against Notts. Durham esta- blished their best Sunday sequence of five successive wins as they passed Nottinghamshire's total of 260 6 with 11 balls to spare. Larkins made 128 to record his second century of the weekend after scoring 107no against Yorkshire in the Northern Electric Trophy at Scarborough. LEICS v YORKS: Leicester Michael Foster hit a brilliant century in only his sixth Sunday League innings to inspire Yorkshire to a 65 run win over Leicestershire at Grace Road. Foster hammered the home attack for 118 off 70 balls with eight sixes and seven fours as Yorks piled up 318 7 their highest Sunday League total. Despite 49 from James Whitaker and 71 from Phil Robinson Leics were earlier 253 all out and slumped to a 10th loss SURREY v HANTS: The Oval Pakistan paceman Waqar Younis turned in a superb all round per- formance as Surrey beat Hants by 77 runs to consolidate third place in the table. After whacking Hants' bowling for a Sunday best 39 in 48 balls as Surrey made 213 Waqar weighed in with 3 29 to help bundle out the opposition for 136. Waqar's haul in- cluded two wickets in successive balls shattering the stumps of Cardigan Connor and James Bovill. KENT v NORTHANTS: Canterbury Nigel Llong hit his highest Sunday score helping Kent back to the top of the table and set up a title showdown at home to Glamorgan on September 19. Llong cracked an unbeaten 64 as Kent beat Northamptonshire by three wickets with three overs to spare to go two points ahead of the Welsh county. Batting first Northants had managed 165 8 Mal Loye top scoring with 22. Apart from Llong Kent also struggled. WORCS v LANCS: Worcester Lancashire skipper Neil Fairbrother and Nick Speak shared a cen- tury partnership to clinch a six wicket success over Wor- cestershire at New Road. The pair joined forces with Lancashire 69 3 after Graeme Hick had removed Graham Lloyd (35) and John Crawley in three balls. Speak hit 55 off 91 balls and skipper Fairbrother (56no) hit the winning runs to take Lancs passed Worcs' 188 9 total |
