Dominic Ostler maintained a hot streak of personal best one day
scores as Warwicks crushed Yorks by eight wickets
He was dropped off Paul Jarvis on 41 and went on to make an
unbeaten 81 off 111 balls as the home side overhauled Yorkshire's
poor total of 131.
Ostler was helped at the crease by Paul Smith (38no) as they
shared in a stand of 101. Smith had earlier demolished the
visitors with figures of 4 33.
AXA Equity & Law Sunday Lgue KENT v ESSEX Maidstone
West Indian star Carl Hooper was man of the match blasting his
first one day ton for Kent then took 5 41 to spin Essex to a
crushing 157 run defeat.
Hooper hammered 11 fours in his 108 his second hundred in
successive days as leaders Kent strengthened their position at
the top of the table.
Kent smashed a total of 309 with Trevor Ward making 86 they then
dismissed Essex for 152 in 38.2 overs.
AXA Equity & Law Sunday Lgue GLAMORGAN v MIDDLESEX Cardiff
Glamorgan registered their fifth successive Sunday League victory
overwhelming Middlesex by 121 runs.
Sent in by Mike Gatting the home side cracked a Sunday best
score of 287 8 with second wicket pair Stephen James (94) and
Adrian Dale (61) adding 172.
Middlesex aces Desmond Haynes Mike Roseberry and Gatting all
went with only 14 on the board and their innings stuttered to 166
all out in 48.3 overs.
AXA Equity & Law Sunday Lgue NORTHANTS v NOTTS Northampton
Mal Loye continued in his rich vein of Sunday League form as
Northants kept themselves among the front runners with a 63 run
victory over Nottinghamshire.
Loye followed his spectacular 122 against Somerset last week with
a more restrained 85 off 114 balls to steer the home side to 227
for 7.
Despite a brave 47 from Chris Cairns Notts were all out for 164
in 44 overs their sixth defeat in seven games.
AXA Equity & Law Sunday Lgue LEICS v LANCS Leicester
Lancashire hit their best ever Sunday League score on the way to
an 83 run win over Leicestershire at Grace Road.
They piled up 300 7 Steve Titchard a career best 84 and Ronnie
Irani (34) sharing an opening stand of 83. Wasim Akram cracked a
42 off 25 balls.
Facing an uphill battle Leics slumped to 42 3 and despite a
valiant ninth wicket stand of 78 by Gordon Parsons and Vince
Wells they ended 217 all out.
AXA Equity & Law Sunday Lgue SOMERSET v SUSSEX Taunton
A 47 ball century by Martin Speight guided Sussex to their fifth
Sunday League win of the season.
Although retiring hurt on 93 after damaging his back Speight
returned in considerable pain with a runner to go on and make 126
as Sussex amassed 302.
Somerset had to score at six and over to win but they were never
in the hunt and were dismissed for 197 as Adrian Jones took 4 26
from eight overs.
AXA Equity & Law Sunday Lgue WORCS v DERBYS Worcester
Worcestershire sunk to their third successive Sunday League
defeat as Derbyshire sneaked home with just three balls to spare.
Chasing 191 the visitors began perfectly with opener Chris Adams
making a half century in just 59 balls.
But as wickets fell they began to struggle and it needed Staurt
Lampitt and Richard Illingworth to hit the 25 runs needed off
last three overs.
AXA Equity & Law Sunday Lgue SURREY v DURHAM The Oval
Ian Botham bowed out of The Oval on a personal high note but his
Sunday best bowling figures for Durham were not enough to prevent
a 36 run defeat.
The former England all rounder in his retirement season
finished with 3 22 in 10 overs as Surrey made 205 9.
Botham then tried to kick start Durham's innings making 19 before
being yorked by Mark Butcher and the visitors collapsed to 169
all out.
AXA Equity & Law Sunday Lgue GLOUCS v HAMPSHIRE Bristol
David Gower's run out began a Hampshire collapse which sent them
reeling to a 24 runs defeat.
Chasing Gloucestershire's total of 240 7 Gower with fellow
opener Tony Middleton had put on 108 before disaster struck.
In all there were three run outs in the Hants innings as they
collapsed to 216 all out West Indian Test ace Courtney Walsh
removing the tail.
