OLD TRAFFORD: Lancs v Sussex Wasim Akram demolished Sunday League
leaders Sussex to steer Lancashire to an emphatic six-wicket win.
Akram bagged 4-20 as Sussex collapsed to 118 before hitting an
unbeaten 39 to help Lancashire cruise to their victory target of
122-4 with 19 overs to spare. The Pakistani captain hit two
sixes, dominating a 52-run stand with Steve Titchard, after
Lancashire had struggled to 70-4.
BATH: Somerset v Middlesex
Mark Ramprakesh and John Carr helped Middlesex cruise to an
eight-wicket Sunday League success over Somerset. The pair
teamed up in an unbroken 140-run stand after Middlesex slumped to
5-2 chasing Somerset's disappointing total of 144. Ramprakesh
made an unbeaten 73 with nine fours and two sixes while Carr was
57 not out as Somerset reached 145-2 with 16.3 overs remaining.
COLWYN BAY: Glamorgan v Durham Adrian Dale claimed a career best
6-22 from ten overs to shatter Durham as Glamorgan claimed a
convincing 166-run Sunday League victory at Colwyn Bay. After
dismissing Ian Botham for his first victim, Dale grabbed a
hat-trick as Durham slumped to 105 all out in 40-1 overs chasing
Glamorgan's 271-6. Matthew Maynard top-scored for Glamorgan with
79 while Viv Richards finished unbeaten on 49.
TRENT BRIDGE:
Notts v Essex Acting skipper Paul Prichard led Essex by example
to steer his side to a 75-run triumph over Nottinghamshire.
Prichard hit his second Sunday League century, including five
boundaries, to pass 2,000 runs in the competition as Essex piled
up an impressive 261-8. Notts failed to match their opponents
run-spree and despite a half-century from Tim Robinson, they
slumped to 186 all out after John Childs bagged 4-38.
SHEFFIELD:
Yorks v Gloucs Former England man Chris Broad inspired
Gloucestershire to their second Sunday win of the season at
Sheffield. Broad finished unbeaten on 75 after teaming up in a
123-run stand with Tony Wright to steer his side to their victory
target of 167-3. Left-hander David Byas hit a determined 50 and
shared in a 52-run partnership with Richard Blakey as Yorkshire
were restricted to 166-8.
EDGBASTON: Warwicks v Surrey Waqar
Younis thwarted Warwickshire's victory charge as Surrey clinched
an 18-run victory over Warwickshire. Chasing Surrey's 194,
Warwicks needed 67 from the last ten overs but Younis, who bowled
five of them, removed Paul Smith (49) to virtually end their bid.
Graham Thorpe (30), Andy Smith (30) and Alastair Brown (26) made
valuable contributions for Surrey before Warwicks collapsed to
176.
NORTHAMPTON: Northants v Hants England reject Allan Lamb
powered Northants to a four wicket win over Hants with two balls
remaining. Lamb celebrated his 39th birthday by cracking eight
fours and a six in an unbeaten 96 as Northants recovered from
116-5 to reach 229-6. Julian Wood top-scored with a Sunday-best
92, adding 111 with Tony Middleton (69) to help Hampshire reach
an impressive 226-2.
CANTERBURY: Kent v Derbyshire Kent keep
their top-spot in the AXA Equity and Law Sunday League despite
slipping to a three-run defeat against Derbyshire at Canterbury.
Chasing Derbyshire's 248-8, Mark Ealham could only manage a two
off the final ball instead of the six needed. Derbyshire opener
Chris Adams hammered 92, including three sixes in nine fours,
before taking four vital catches to boost the victory charge.
