SOMERSET v LEICS: Weston-super-Mare
Leicestershire needed just over 50 minutes to complete the
formality of beating Somerset at Weston Super Mare.
The visitors won by an innings and 15 runs after the hosts' last
wicket pair Graham Rose and Neil Mallender offered prolonged
resistance.
Rose hit a bright knock of 40 before he fell to left arm seamer
Alan Mullally. Mallender was unbeaten on 25 as Somerset were all
out for 193.
WORCS v KENT: New Road
Former England spinner Richard Illingworth demolished Kent to
seal an innings victory for Worcestershire in their championship
clash at New Road.
Illingworth celebrated his 30th birthday by bagging 4-68 as Kent
slid to 249 all out just after lunch.
Fifth wicket pair Dean Headley and Neil Taylor held up Worcs'
victory charge for 90 minutes in a 48 run stand before Illing-
worth wrapped up Kent's slump.
LANCS v YORKS: Old Trafford
Paceman Mark Robinson bowled Yorkshire to a thrilling 19 run Ros-
es victory over Lancashire at Old Trafford.
Robinson claimed 6-62 as Lancashire chasing a record Roses victo-
ry target of 334 slid to 314 all out after resuming on 137-2.
Phil DeFreitas led a tail end rally after Wasim Akram hit a
quickfire 39 but fell with Lancs needing 27 and Darren Gough
wrapped up the victory.
GALMORGAN v HANTS: Swansea
Shaun Udal spun Hampshire to a 98 run victory over Glamorgan at
Swansea and in the process virtually assured the county champi-
onship to Middlesex.
Off spinner Udal took 5-75 off 24.1 overs as Hampshire claimed
their fourth championship win of the season.
Set 326 after Hampshire had declared at 196 4 Hugh Morris led
the way for Glams hitting 60 but David Hemp (63) was the only
other scorer of note.
GLOUCS v ESSEX: Bristol
Darren Robinson drafted into a weakened Essex side hit 67 as
their match with Gloucs ended in a draw.
The 20 year old opener batted for three hours 20 minutes and Es-
sex wanting 325 to win were 140-2 when he fell and finally
closed at 240-5.
Essex's early thoughts of victory were dashed when they lost
three quick wickets after tea but a damp pitch alos failed to
help the bowlers.
DURHAM v WARWICKS: Darlington
Wayne Larkins blasted Durham to their first home championship win
this season when they beat injury hit Warwickshire by nine wick-
ets at Darlington.
The 39 year old opener hit 113no with 17 fours and a six as
Durham defied the loss of 16 overs to rain to reach a target of
240 with 4.3 overs to spare.
Warwickshire resuming on 226-5 added 50 before losing 4-33 runs
and ending at 327 all out.
