CC 1993: Round 13 - 29 July - 2 Aug 1993 Day 4 : 02 August 1993 SOMERSET v YORKSHIRE: Taunton Fast bowler Darren Gough advanced his claims for an England A place this winter by taking a career best 7-42 as Yorkshire beat Somerset at Taunton. The visitors took just 40 minutes to complete victory bowling out Somerset for 170 to clinch a 48 run win. Gough swung the match with three wickets in five balls after Gra- ham Rose and Mushtaq Ahmed had extended their seventh wicket stand to 61. DURHAM v SUSSEX: Durham Univ Franklyn Stephenson ripped through Durham to clinch Sussex's em- phatic 267 run win at Durham University. The West Indian paceman claimed 5-55 as Durham resuming overnight on 26-2 chasing a victory target of 478 slumped to 210 all out. Stephenson trapped Wayne Larkins leg before in the second over of the day before skipper David Graveney produced a late rally with an unbeaten 29. GLOUCS v DERBYS: Cheltenham John Morris completed a superb match display by steering Der- byshire to a seven wicket win over Gloucestershire. Morris who hit a career best 229 in the first innings hammered an unbeaten 71 as Derbys reached the 79 needed for victory before lunch. Courtney Walsh tested Derbyshire briefly claiming the scalp of Chris Adams but Morris steadied the ship to steer his side to a comfortable win. KENT v LEICS: Canterbury Skipper Mark Benson steered Kent to a three wicket win over Le- icestershire their first championship win for more than a month. Benson hammered five fours to finish unbeaten on 71 to rescue Kent from a perilous 86-5 at lunch. He teamed up with Neil Taylor in an 80 run stand in 30 overs be- fore Mark Ealham joined him to steer Kent to their victory target of 225-7. HANTS v WARWICKS: Southampton Stand in seamer Michael Bell produced a career best display to bowl Warwicks to an 80 run victory over Hampshire. Bell only playing because Allan Donald and Tim Munton were misssing grabbed 5-43 to shoot out Hampshire for 208 chasing a victory target of 289. Spinner Neil Smith also pitched in with 4-93 as Hants lost their last four wickets for three runs. Warwickshire were bowled out for 392. ESSEX v WORCS: Chelmsford Former England skipper Graham Gooch hit his first championship century of the season to help Essex to their first win since June. Gooch hit a timely unbeaten 159 to help beat Worcestershire by four wickets with 5.2 overs to spare. Gooch forged a 164 run stand with Paul Prichard to help Essex reach 286-6.
