Final Standings
Israel defeat Spain by 112 runs (August 14) In a fantastic start to their European Championship campaign, the National junior team cruised to a 112 run win over Spain on Tuesday. Having lost the toss and been put into bat in overcast conditions, the opening partnership between Darren Miller and Bar Ilya added 43 runs, before Miller was out for 4. Left handed Ilya, 12, who has only started playing cricket in the past few months, lost his wicket soon after, having scored 38. Skipper Gal Matz became the 3rd man out when he was dismissed for 19. Dani Hotz and Oren Chinchulker continued the good work done by the top order. Both batted aggressively in the final overs, Hotz finishing undefeated on 43, and Chinculker was not out on 14; Israel having reached 163/3 in their 32 overs. Swopping his bat for the new ball, Chinchulker soon had the Spaniards reeling. He picked up 2 early wickets, and Yaniv Raspurker another, as Spain were left at 8/3 within the first 5 overs. They never recovered, eventually being all out for 51. Chinculker finished with 3/8, Matz and Maor Shmuel both returned figures of 2/9. Take Two - Israel defeat Belgium by 8 wickets (August 15) The Israel U15 cricket team continued their superb form at the U15 'B' European Championships, crushing Belgium by 8 wickets yesterday. The victory follows their 112 - run triumph over Spain on Tuesday. Having
lost the toss once again, the Israel side was asked to field first. A tremendously
accurate opening spell of bowling by Yaniv Raspurker, who conceded just 1 run
in 5 overs, and Oren Chinchulker, who conceded 7 runs in 6 overs, meant that
Belgium got off to a very slow start. After 8 overs they had just 3 runs on
the board, and although they did manage to increase their scoring tempo somewhat,
wickets began to fall, leaving them 49 for 4 after 20 overs. Much like in yesterdays
game, the Israeli bowlers were quick in running through the lower order batsman.
Michael Muchi (3 for 15) and leg-spinner Ronen Wasker (3 for 8) were the most
successful bowlers, as Belgium were dismissed for 67. Three in a row - Israel defeats Germany by 4 wickets (August 16) Israel go into today's semifinal against Gibraltar full of confidence, having finished the group stage of the U15 'B' European Championships undefeated. In yesterdays game, moved from Monday because of rain, they beat the hosts Germany by 4 wickets. The victory followed Tuesday's win by 112 runs over Spain, and Wednesday's 8 wicket triumph over Belgium. Whilst Israel will be justifiably proud of their win, they certainly were made to work hard. Having won the toss and chosen to field, the Israeli bowlers were once again magnificent, restricting the Germans to just 30 runs after 17 overs. They did however manage to finish their innings strongly, reaching 82 for 8 wickets at the completion of their allotted 30 overs. Captain Gal Matz returned the brilliant figures of 4 for 14 in his 6 overs, whilst Michael Muchi followed up with his 3 wickets on Wednesday with a 2 wicket haul. Whilst the target always seemed reachable for the in-form Israel batsman, a combination of some indifferent shot selection and tight German bowling, meant that the comfortable position of 65 for 2 became 78/6, as the middle order lost their way. Despite the mini-collapse, the Israeli side was not to be denied their deserved victory, with Oren Chinchulker (7*) hitting the winning runs with 5 balls to spare. Whilst Israel and Germany were playing for the top honours in Group A, Gibraltar advanced to the semi finals with a comfortable 60 run win over Italy. Germany meet Group B winners Austria in the second semi final. Captain Courageous - Matz guides Israel to final (August 17) A heroic innings of 54 not out by skipper Gal Matz led Israel to a semi final win in a nailbighting contest against Gibraltar. Having won the toss and chosen to bat, Gibraltar got off to a strong start, and at one stage looked set for a mammoth total with the score on 77/3 after 24 overs. Four quick wickets in the space of 2 overs put the brakes on scoring, and Gibraltar would have been satisfied to reach their score of 98 for 8 in their 30 overs. Israel made a change to the batting order - promoting Yaniv Raspurker to open th innings and dropping Darren Miller down to the middle order. The change wasn't to bear fruits however, and Israel were soon in familiar territory - 2 down and less than 15 runs on the board. The partership between Matz and Dani Hotz was always going to be crucial, and just when it seemed the two were steering Israel to a comfortable win, Hotz was dubiously adjudged LBW, leaving Israel at 54 for 3. Whilst Matz kept going from one end, he failed to find a partner able to provide him with the necessary support, as a steady procession of wickets fell. Oren Chinchulker, Darren Miller, Maor Shmuel, Michael Muchi and Eyal Matz all came and went, and at 89 for 8 and with overs running out, it seemed as if Israel would fall agonisingly short of their target. But Matz, in a knock of immense skill and massive mental strength, displayed tremendous maturity and managed to guide his team to victory. Ronen Wasker (2*) provided him with the necessary support at the end, with Matz fittingly hitting the winning run with 4 balls to spare. Germany win European Trophy with 50 run win over Israel Whilst winning would have been a marvellous end to a great performance by the Israel U15 team over during the week long tournament, their winning streak of four straight wins was finally halted in the final, which Germany won by 50 runs. Batting first having won the toss, Germany had just 39 on the board after 15 overs. But their opening batsman, a former Pakistan U13 player, played a memorable innings of 75, to see his team to 132 for 9 in their 30 overs. For Israel, only Gal Matz offered any real resistance. He top scored with 35 in a dissapointing run chase, which saw Israel finish with 82 for 6 at the completion of their 30 overs.
