Kiwi players invited to take on NSW in trial match
Lynn McConnell - 8 October 2002

New Zealand's first-class cricketers may be missing out on warm-up preparation for the forthcoming season but several of their team-mates are cashing in on opportunities in Australia.

Scott Styris has been named the captain of a New South Wales Invitational XI which tomorrow will play the New South Wales side that has its first ING Cup match on Sunday.

Discussions between the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association and New Zealand Cricket over several issues are continuing in Christchurch. Because the Players' Association asked players not to make themselves available for practice matches against the New Zealand Academy side at the High Performance Centre at Lincoln University this week, New Zealand players are confined to their club cricket obligations only.

Styris is playing in Sydney for the Gordon club.

Joseph Hill, the former Central Districts player is also in the side with his Randwick-Petersham club-mate, Australian batsman Simon Katich.

Others from New Zealand in the side are: Northern Districts opener James Marshall, Otago and New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum, Northern Districts left-arm spinner Bruce Martin and New Zealand fast-medium bowler bowler Daryl Tuffey.
