Briasco to become CD coaching director
Lynn McConnell - 26 June 2002

Former Central Districts captain Scott Briasco will replace Mark Greatbatch as the coaching director for the association.

Greatbatch has become the coach of the CD men's team.

CD chief executive Blair Furlong said Briasco, who is head of science at Hastings Boys' High School, would take up the position on August 1.

"Scott has had a long involvement with CD as a player from 1982-1992. He was captain from 1988-1992 and coached the side from 1995-1997. He was a CD board member from 1992-2001.

"During his tenure as captain the Stags won the Shell Trophy in 1992," he said.

A popular figure in the game in the region, and throughout the country, Briasco scored 4301 runs at 33.08, including six centuries during his 81-game career for the side.

As recognition of his contribution to CD, he was awarded a testimonial season in 1991/92.

"CD will be looking to Scott to use his considerable cricketing and organisational skills in the coaching director's position.

"With Mark Greatbatch full-time coach of the State Central Stags, Scott will concentrate on the next levels of men's and boys' cricket and take responsibility for women's cricket.

"His knowledge of the District Associations will be invaluable in his liaison with the excellent group of coaching co-ordinators throughout CD.

"Although this is a change of direction, Scott sees this position as an excellent opportunity to combine his abundant cricket knowledge with his administrative skills," Furlong said.
