Auckland and Canterbury complete second round with wins Lynn McConnell - 16 January 2002
Auckland completed their dominance of Otago in their State League match in Auckland yesterday. Auckland scored 209/7 in 50 overs with Emily Drumm scoring 78 and Helen Watson 37. Sarah Tsukigawa took three wickets for 30 and Kirsten Spence three for 42 for Otago. But Otago struggled against the Auckland attack and scored less than two runs an over in compiling 61 from 34.4 overs. Watson took two for two and Debbie Ramsay two for eight. Canterbury got back on a winning course with a comprehensive 102-run win over Northern Districts in Hamilton. Canterbury's top order were completely dominant. Paula Flannery and Jo Strachan put on 83 for the first wicket and then Nicola Payne came in and scored 66 to set up a score of 226/7. ND lost a wicket before it had scored and it never recovered as only four players got into double figures, and only three of those into the twenties, Victoria Brown (22), Janice Fraser (23) and Maree Hannay (29). With first change bowler Rebecca Steele taking four for 20 and Flannery three for 30 from her 10 overs, Canterbury were always in control. © CricInfo
