ODI plan turned down as filler for early Test finish
Lynn McConnell - 14 December 2002
Attempts were made to play a One-Day International between New Zealand and India at the Basin Reserve tomorrow.
With New Zealand winning the first match of the National Bank Test series inside three days, the prospect of a one-dayer to take advantage of the interest in the tour which saw a crowd of around 6000 turn up for today's play, was seen as a way of taking advantage of the two free days available to both sides.
However, it is understood India were not prepared to play and the idea has been dropped.
It is further understood that the match would have been televised by the series broadcaster and have the support of the tour sponsors.
