New Plymouth and Epsom Girls' off to winning start

The National Secondary Schoolgirls' Competition started yesterday in Palmerston North as well, with their games being transferred to artificial pitches on Ongley Park as well.

Scores were:

New Plymouth Girls' High School 149/8 (Courtney Sim 33, Rachel Priest 29, Amy Whitmore 22; Laura Paine two for 25, Kate Saunders two for 30) beat Burnside 133 (Frances Clark 30, Nicole Ockenden 24, Kendra Cocksedge four for 24, Courtney Sim two for 14, Ruth Franklin two for 46) by 16 runs.

Epsom Girls' Grammar School 201/5 (Rosamond Kember 98, Sarah Jack 22; Lisa Hayes three for 38) beat Napier Girls' High School 158/7 (Kelly Tunnicliffe 64 not out; Clare Barnett two for 30, Amy Hodgson two for 35) by 43 runs.
