Rain restricts play in Gillette Cup second round games Lynn McConnell - 7 December 2002
Rain interrupted play in the Gillette Cup secondary schoolboys' finals today in Palmerston North leaving second round games undecided. Ominous looking clouds in the distance as the teams broke for lunch materialised into heavy showers during the break and no play was possible for the remainder of the day. The final round of games are scheduled to be played tomorrow, but the forecast is not promising which could mean that for the second year in a row the tournament is upset by the weather. In the first match, Wanganui Collegiate won the toss and batted first against Southland Boys' High School. They scored 187, being dismissed in the 49th over. Tom Lance scored 63, Jack Jefferd 25 and James Barton 20. Matthew Anderson-Stewart took three for 34, Regan Mauheni three for 43 and Daniel Ramsay two for 37. Kelson Boys' High School also made first use of batting after winning the toss against Hamilton Boys' High School. Kelston BHS has 207/9 when their 50 overs were completed. Ben Mailata was 41 not out, Roneel Hira scored 27, Paul Matthews 30, Chris Scheib 34. Cameron Weight took three for 40, Jono McNeill two for 44 and Keir Bettley two for 36. © CricInfo
