ND women's appointment reflects growth area in game Lynn McConnell - 3 September 2001
Northern Districts is building on the success of its women's team in last year's State Insurance Cup by announcing today that it has appointed a full-time women's development officer. NDCA chief executive John Turkington said Janice Fraser has been appointed to the role. Fraser, who has a Level II coaching qualification, has a strong playing background, having been a member of the first ND women's team while also being drafted to Otago and Central Districts teams in the past. "The key responsibilities of the position include organising competitions for girls and women, administration, communication with players, broadening the base of players, and recruitment and retention of players at all levels," Turkington said. "Janice is a very capable player and coach who will bring to this role the enthusiasm it requires. "This is a clear acknowledgement of the tremendous upsurge of interest in women's cricket in our region and our commitment to its continued development," he said. Fraser will be seen in the near future promoting women's cricket throughout the region utilising Northern Districts' latest promotional vehicle, the Knight Rider. This features state of the art interactive technology and will be seen as schools throughout the Associations' regions. © CricInfo
